With Hearty: A Delicate Handwritten Script Font for Elegant Branding

It was 10:47 a.m., coffee lukewarm, and I’d just opened a fresh brand board for a new client—a small-batch skincare line launching in Portland. They wanted “soft but intentional,” “human but polished,” nothing overly floral or twee. I scrolled past my usual script suspects—some too bouncy, some too stiff—and landed on With Hearty. Not because it was trending, but because its specimen page showed something rare: quiet confidence. So I dropped it into the logo draft, typed “Aura Botanicals,” and paused.

What With Hearty Actually Feels Like in Practice

With Hearty is an exquisite handwritten script font—but not in the way you might expect. It’s not flamboyant or theatrical. Instead, it’s delicate, precise, and deeply considered. Each letter carries subtle weight shifts, gentle entry and exit strokes, and those “enchanting tails” the description mentions—think fine ink strokes that taper like breath, not exaggerated flourishes. The alternates aren’t gimmicks; they’re thoughtful variations that soften repetition (like swapping the ‘a’ or ‘e’ in “serenity”) without breaking rhythm. It’s the kind of script you’d trust to hold a brand name on a matte-finish serum bottle—not a neon sign.

Where It Shines (and Where It Steps Back)

I tested With Hearty across six real touchpoints: the logo lockup, a brand board with color and texture swatches, a product label mockup (3.5″ x 2.5″), business cards (both digital PDF and printed proof), a website hero section, and Instagram story templates. Here’s what held up:

Where it didn’t fit: body copy (obviously), data-heavy infographics, signage over 10 feet away, or any context demanding instant scannability. It’s not built for speed—it’s built for resonance. If your brand voice leans clinical, institutional, or ultra-minimalist, With Hearty will feel like wearing silk gloves to fix a faucet.

Pairing It Without Overcomplicating Things

I tried three pairings across the project:

  1. A warm serif (Lora, regular weight): Used for ingredient lists and website body text. The contrast worked—With Hearty floated above like handwriting on a letterhead, while Lora grounded everything with quiet readability.
  2. A neutral sans (Inter, light or regular): My go-to for captions, web navigation, and packaging fine print. Clean, unobtrusive, and just enough contrast to let With Hearty breathe.
  3. Another script (nope): Tried layering it with a bolder script for “handcrafted” accents. Clashed instantly. With Hearty doesn’t share the stage—it holds it gently, alone.

Bottom line: With Hearty thrives when paired with typefaces that respect its delicacy. Think supportive, not competitive.

Practical Notes You’ll Actually Use

The With Hearty package includes OpenType features—standard and discretionary ligatures, initial/terminal swashes, and contextual alternates. All accessible in Illustrator and Figma via the glyph panel. No hidden tricks; just clean implementation. It ships as OTF and WOFF2, so web use is straightforward—just confirm your hosting supports variable font loading if you plan to use it dynamically.

One thing I double-checked before final files: licensing. With Hearty is sold through Script Amp, and their license covers desktop, web, and app use—but *not* unlimited merchandise resale (e.g., printing it on 5,000 tote bags for a third-party shop). Always review the commercial terms before handing off to a printer or developer. I’ve seen too many designers get tripped up there.

Also worth noting: no bold or italic weights. It’s a single-style script font—intentionally. That means it’s not meant to carry hierarchy alone. You’ll need a strong secondary typeface for subheads, captions, or callouts. That’s not a limitation; it’s a design invitation.

A Realistic Takeaway

With Hearty won’t fix weak branding. But if your project already has warmth, intention, and craft—whether it’s a ceramic studio’s packaging, a neighborhood café’s menu board, or a boutique publisher’s book spine—it adds a layer of sincerity that feels earned, not applied. It’s the kind of font that makes people pause just long enough to register tone before content. Not flashy. Not loud. Just quietly, unmistakably *there*.

If you’re weighing With Hearty for your next identity system, test it early—not just on screen, but printed at actual size, against your palette, beside your secondary type. See how it behaves in light, on texture, in silence. Because elegance isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. And With Hearty has that in spades.
